“I see the mistreatment and the harsh looks that teen mothers receive from adults, and those looks are bad enough when your just a teen mother, but they get worse when you a teen mom and a woman of color. Women of color are already divided and taken advantage of because of their race and when you’re a teen mother you are separated even more because you have a child. I think Sistas on the Rise is a greatly needed and useful organization to our community because Sistas on the Rise is helping teen mothers and teen girls without babies to rebuild their relationships with one another. Sistas on the Rise helps close the gap that has been created by us (the young women) when we divided our selves, we have learned that we are all sisters and we shouldn’t separate our selves. Sistas on the Rise is giving us a safe place to grow and learn from one another and giving us a chance to play a positive role in our community. Sistas on the Rise is great. I have learned so much from the other girls. Choosing to be a apart of this organization and be allowed into this family has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and I think other girls would agree with me”.
